The romantic notions of this image may be dominant to the average viewer, but to me it is about the dramatic black, white, and reddish forms and shiny surfaces.  There is obviously bright light around the subject, and yet it cannot overpower the dark gloom into which the image recedes as your eye follows the lines back.
