"Sobo no Kura"

"Grandmother's Warehouse" is the translation of the title. It is fairly common for older homes in Japan to have a warehouse nearby where valuables are kept because homes are not very safe from weather, fire, or floods. I got to explore such a warehouse and found a wealth of rustic imagery such as this. I spent quite some time looking for either tungsten-balanced film or a daylight lightbulb because there were no windows and a single incandescent bulb was the only source of illumination. Since I could find neither, the only option was to shoot with the digital camera. The exposures were on the order of 1/2 second and this produced quite noisy images. I spent hours cleaning this one up in Photoshop. Olympus C-3000. |
